The University of Louisville men's tennis team has been selected to participate in the June 5th draft for the 2009 Intercollegiate Tennis Association "Kick-Off" Weekends. The inaugural tournament will be held Jan. 30-Feb. 1 and will consist of 60 teams featuring 15 selected sites hosting four teams. First round winners and losers face each other in the second round. The 15 teams that win both matches advance to ITA National Team Indoor Championships, played two weeks later, Feb. 13-16.

"It is an honor to be invited to the first-ever ITA Kick-Off Weekend in which the winner will qualify for the National Indoor Team Championships," said U of L head coach Rex Ecarma. "This will be a chance, early in the season, to play against some of the best teams in the country for a berth to the `Sweet 16' of the National Indoor. Our team historically has done a good job early in the season like last season when we started off 6-0. If we have that kind of momentum going into this important weekend, anything is possible."

The Cardinals finished the 2007 season at No. 48 in the ITA final rankings (May 23), with a 17-7 record and were fourth in the BIG EAST Conference tournament. The complete 2009 ITA Kick-Off Weekend draws will be announced on June 5th.
