Louisville Rowing Advances to Petite Finals in Three Events at South/Central Regional

OAK RIDGE, Tenn. - The University of Louisville rowing team closed Saturday's opening day of competition at the South/Central Regional by advancing three crews to Sunday's petite finals at Melton Hill Lake. The Cards' varsity eight crew finished fifth in the A/B Semifinal #1 on Saturday afternoon with a time of 6 minutes, 51.35 seconds across the 2,000-meter course, while No. 13 ranked Michigan led the way with a time of 6:36.10. No. 5 Michigan State was second at 6:36.65, followed by Wisconsin in third at 6:38.05. Louisville will compete in varsity eight petite final at 9:07 a.m. ET on Sunday. In the second varsity eight event, the Cards finished fifth in A/B Semifinal #1 with a time of 6:57.97, while Ohio State led the way with a time of 6:43.20. Notre Dame was second at 6:47.12, followed by Wisconsin at 6:48.31. The Cards will compete in the second varsity eight petite final on Sunday at 9:21 a.m. ET. Louisville's varsity four crew finished sixth overall in A/B Semifinal #2 with a time of 8:02.05, while Virginia won the race with a time of 7:35.50. Minnesota was second at 7:40.00, while Michigan was third at 7:40.65. The Cards' varsity four crew will compete in the petite final on Sunday at 9:35 a.m. ET. In preliminary action on Saturday morning, the Cards finished second in the second heat of the second varsity eight event with a time of 6:44.16. The Cards finished third in Heat #2 of the varsity four event with a time of 7:46.44 and third in the second heat of the varsity eight event with a time of 6:41.31. In the second heat of the open four event, the Cards were sixth overall with a time of 8:14.56 and Louisville will compete in the open four "C" final on Sunday at 10:52 a.m. ET.
